The best conditions for a bountiful harvest

Raised garden beds make it easier to plant vegetables and maximise the harvest – but only the Biohort Raised Vegetable Bed combines the best hobby in the world with practical functionality and intelligent design. Ingenious details add to the eye-catching effect of this product, offering more than just elegant practicality!

Buying a Raised Vegetable Bed - 5 things to consider prior to purchase

Our Raised Vegetable Bed is an excellent way to grow your own vegetables and herbs. It offers many advantages, such as an ergonomic way of working and better control over the soil and plants. However, prior to purchase there are a few important aspects to consider. In this short guide, we will outline some of the key considerations you should take into account to help find the ideal raised bed.

  1. Location
Before purchasing, you should already consider where your Raised Vegetable Bed will get sufficient sunlight. It is important that it is not close to trees or bushes that could restrict the growth of the plants.
  2. Size
The size of the Raised Vegetable Bed is crucial to ensure that all your desired plants can be grown.
  3. Material
Raised beds are available in various materials such as wood, plastic or metal. To ensure that you can enjoy your raised bed for a long time, it is advisable to make use of robust and durable material that can withstand all weather conditions. Hot-dip galvanised sheet steel offers great durability and also excellent thermal insulation. This leads to the soil in the raised bed warming up more quickly and, as a result, the plants thriving faster and more efficiently. Additionally, a raised bed made of sheet steel is a real eye-catcher with its stylish and modern design.
  4. Drainage
Sufficient drainage is essential to prevent waterlogging. When buying a raised bed, make sure that it is equipped with holes in the base allowing the drainage of excess water.
  5. Price
The price of a raised bed varies depending on the size, material and quality. It is worth investing in a durable and high-quality product.

Conclusion
By making note of above factors, your plants will thrive magnificently. Look forward to a successful gardening season, as with a high-quality raised bed, growing and caring for your favourite plants will be a real pleasure.

Frequently Asked Questions about our Raised Vegetable Bed

Does the Raised Vegetable Bed have a base?

No, the Raised Vegetable Bed does not have a solid base. Optionally, you may install our Intermediate Floor, with which the planting depth and the need for filling material can be reduced.

How many litres of soil are required for the 2x1 Raised Vegetable Bed with Intermediate Floor?

For the Raised Vegetable Bed size 2x1 with Intermediate Floor, approximately 400 litres of soil are needed. The quantity may vary slightly depending on the type of plant and soil layer selected.

When is the best time to fill my Raised Vegetable Bed?

During winter months, the raised bed loses volume and the material sinks as it rots. This can cause uneven areas to form. This process is a normal part of biological decomposition in the raised bed. For this reason, you should refill your Raised Vegetable Bed in spring to compensate for the lost volume. The advantage: At this time of year, the temperatures are also mild and the soil contains sufficient moisture - ideal conditions for sowing and the growth of your plants.

How do I fill my Raised Vegetable Bed correctly?

The Raised Vegetable Bed should be filled in layers to ensure optimal plant growth. The bottom layer consists of material such as branches or twigs. This is followed by a layer of grass or finely chopped material and then another layer consiting of compost and leaves. The final layer contains high-quality potting soil, humus soil or compost soil.

What do I need for sowing?

For sowing in a raised bed, you need high-quality seeds, suitable sowing or propagation soil and water for irrigation. Gloves and small gardening tools such as a planting trowel are also helpful for preparing the soil and distributing the seeds evenly. Note: Plants need warmth, light and water to thrive. Until the sun gains strength in spring, it is recommended to protect the tender little plants from cool temperatures. Especially at night, you may make use of our Cold Frame Extension.

When is the best time to sow?

The best time for sowing varies depending on the type of plant, as each species has its own characteristics. The weather and temperature also play an important role. In general, however, spring is ideal for most vegetables.

Sowing in a raised bed - what do I need to consider?

Make sure to keep the soil evenly moist, but not too wet. Also take into account the depth recommended for the respective seed and observe the correct spacing to create optimal growing conditions. Further aspects having a positive influence on the harvest are a suitable crop rotation and mixed cultivation - because even with plants, there are good and bad neighbours. Our Snail Guard may also be helpful to protect your plants from pests. This structure is simply placed on top of the Raised Vegetable Bed.

Please note the following points for correct goods acceptance.

  • Check against the included delivery note that you have the right number of packages and that the colour and size are correct, as well as checking each box for obvious transport damage. If you notice any irregularities, be sure to note them on the carrier's delivery receipt, or in the digital signature field ("goods damaged", "damaged", "box missing").

  • The driver must give you sufficient time to do this and must confirm the complaint with a signature (incl. lorry registration number).

  • Please also accept damaged packages!
After examining the facts, we will replace the damaged parts free of charge and deliver them without delay.

  • Please report any irregularities during goods acceptance within three working days, by sending us an email with photos to our customer service team at customerservice.gb@biohort.com

"Delivery free kerbside" comprises the single transport from our factory to the delivery address supplied (mainland only), last kerbside, provided that the road is passable for a 38-tonne lorry. You will receive telephone notification from our shipping company approximately 2-3 days before the actual delivery to inform you of the exact delivery date. Please ensure that, when placing your order, you provide your e-mail address & telephone number we can use to contact you during the day. Please ensure that you leave enough room for the delivery, depending on the size of product ordered.

An island surcharge is applied for delivery to some islands. Please enquire about this at office@biohort.at

We recommend that the boxes are carried by at least two people, depending on the size and weight of the boxes.
Please note that the delivery driver is not obliged to carry the goods to your desired storage location or assembly site.

A pair of scissors is marked on the cardboard boxes with a pre-drawn cut on the edge of the box. The packages can be opened with a cutter knife there. Please lift the individual components carefully out of the packaging (please do not pull!).

Our products are intended for self-assembly and are packed and delivered in individual parts. Depending on the products, the parts are packed in one or more sturdy corrugated cardboard boxes that are clearly labelled on the outside. Additional protection in the form of wooden slats, polystyrene and plastic fleece material is provided for sensitive parts. Orders containing more than nine boxes are partly shipped with additional packaging in the form of wooden crates. The customer is responsible for disposing of all of the packaging material.

Depending on size, the boxes are fitted with handles or recessed grips. We recommend that at least two persons carry the boxes due to their size and weight.

One single box can weigh up to 73 kg depending on the product.

If you do not unpack your Biohort product immediately, please ensure that the packages are stored in a dry place. Should the boxes get wet or damp, we can accept no liability for any subsequent damage to the goods.

The boxes should be stored horizontally on a continuous, supporting surface.

A foundation must be erected for the Storage Sheds, Equipment Locker and the MiniGarage. Please refer to our foundation tips.

A level, solid hard surface is required for the WoodStock, StoreMax and HighBoard products as well as for the Romeo Patio Locker. These products must be anchored to this hard surface with the screws and dowels supplied.

The outdoor boxes (LeisureTime Box, LoungeBox and StyleBox) must also be installed on a level, solid surface. These products do not need to be secured to the ground.

The Raised Vegetable Bed, Belvedere Planting Bed, DaVinci and MonAmi Composter can be installed on all level surfaces.

The Belvedere planting bed and the Raised Vegetable Bed are supplied without ground anchoring. Only if an optional privacy screen or trellis is ordered, 4 fixing brackets are included in the scope of delivery.

No specific specialist skills are required for assembly. A detailed assembly manual is supplied with our products. You can download the assembly manual in advance from our website.

This depends on a few factors:

  • The skill of the "assemblers" and how many there are of them
  • The weather conditions (never build in windy weather!)
  • The space situation (at least 70 cm of space all-around)

Because we have years of experience, however, we can give guideline values. Please note that these estimates relate purely to the time taken for the work. Please read the assembly manual beforehand, including all notices.

The foundation must be absolutely level for the successful assembly of our products.

With the Biohort SmartBasePLUS foundation for slopes and lawns, it is possible to compensate for a slope of 15 cm. Extension sets for the ground screws can also be provided on request, to achieve compensation of max. 55 cm overall.

Please note that with this foundation, only one side of the shed can be raised. The foundation screws are not suitable for raising the entire shed.

On a firm surface, the SmartBase can compensate for a slope of up to 4 cm.

See our Foundation Tips for more detailed information.

An even, level hard surface is essential for successful assembly. Leave a space of at least 70 cm all around the assembly area. Please open the boxes as noted on the boxes themselves. Should any parts be damaged, do not fit them, but inform customer services immediately, enclosing photos.

Please place the individual parts on suitable surfaces/supports to avoid scratches. Wear gloves during assembly - some parts may have sharp edges.

Check the delivered goods for completeness (size, colour, number) and possible damage. Ensure that you have enough space (at least 70 cm around the foundation) and helpers to assist with the assembly. You are advised to read the assembly manual in advance.

The detailed product assembly manual is supplied. This can also be downloaded from our website.

Safety advice for each product can be found on the opening pages of the assembly manual.

Basically:
Keep all small parts or packaging materials supplied away from small children during assembly. Some components have sharp edges or protrude. This should be borne in mind when assembling the product and during daily use. Gloves are included and can be used if necessary.

Note that relatively high temperatures may develop in the garden shed (heat generation similar to that in a car). Find out the storage conditions for the products stored in the garden shed from the respective manufacturers.

BikeLift:
The aluminium rail must be examined before use to check that it is dry.
Other people should also be prevented from standing in the danger area when you are using it. Children may only use the BikeLift under adult supervision.

As the Raised Vegetable Bed, the flexible DaVinci Planter Box System and the Belvedere Planting Bed were developed purely as planters; they do not meet the standards and guidelines for guardrails or railings.

We recommend that you clean the affected areas with a limescale remover. Make sure that it is compatible with metal and paint. Ask your local building materials or garden centre for advice. Alternatively, you can also use a mild car shampoo, as this generally achieves very good cleaning results. However, do not use any aggressive, abrasive cleaning agents or vinegar cleaners, as these could damage the coating.

Biohort products need very little care due to the high-quality materials used and careful workmanship. Simply lubricate the lock and hinges every year and regularly clean the StoreMax sliding rails or treat them with silicone spray. In the event of soiling due to weather and environmental conditions, clean using just water and the Biohort CleanLine Universal Cleaner. A high-pressure cleaner can also be used (maintain a distance of at least 10 cm between the lance and the lacquer. Do not use a steam cleaner. Max. pressure approximately 80 bar). To preserve the lacquer surface, we recommend Biohort CleanLine Preservation, which provides the lacquer surface with optimum protection against weather and environmental conditions.

The gutter should be cleaned several times a year, to ensure optimum drainage. If the gutter is blocked, it may overflow. No liability can be accepted for any resultant damage.

IMPORTANT: Sea air/ambient air containing salt water and/or salt, aggressive and abrasive cleaning agents, road salt, fertilisers, fresh concrete, screed materials and other chemical substances (never store this type of product in the open) can attack the lacquer and zinc surface, thereby leading to corrosion. Warranty claims are no longer valid in such cases.

The products can be installed on a roof terrace if building regulations are met.

IMPORTANT:Ensure that products are anchored securely in case of stormy weather (fixing material supplied). Biohort cannot accept any liability for damage caused by insufficiently secured products.

There is a risk of tipping over in storms and strong winds, so professional anchoring is necessary. To allow anchoring, mounting brackets are supplied with the connecting or end uprights.

Yes, retrofitting is possible here. The Privacy Screen and Trellis can be ordered directly from our online shop, or from one of our retail partners.

The intermediate floor is included among the items supplied for DaVinci. The planter insert is available as an optional accessory.

Biohort colours do not correspond to any RAL number but some of them share similar features to RAL numbers. We recommend that you view the original colour samples at our dealers. If you wish, you can also request a colour sample chart from Biohort.

No, these two items are not compatible with the DaVinci.

Biohort uses only the best material for all its products. Biohort products are made from high-quality, galvanised, polyamide enamel coated steel from Austria and Germany. Premium car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW or Audi have relied on the high quality of these renowned steel producers for years. This is the reason why we can offer our customers a 20-year guarantee against corrosion with a clear conscience. Individual components are made from aluminium.

The intermediate floor is inserted on the second corrugation. The intermediate floor cannot be used at a lower level.

The intermediate floor must be water-permeable to prevent waterlogging. The intermediate floor is used to reduce the amount of filling material required.

The external, internal and foundation dimensions can be found either in the last few pages of the Biohort brochure (technical details) or online. To view this data, click on the desired product on the Biohort website and then go to technical details. You can also download the respective submission plan and foundation plan.

ATTENTION: The exterior dimensions always include the roof overhang and the height shown is the highest point of the product.

The cold frame extension can remain in situ during the winter. Please note the maximum weight-bearing capacity of 25 kg per top panel.

Yes, the snail guard and the cold frame extension can be mounted together.

Biohort products are subject to the DIN 4102 standard and are classified according to building material rating A1 under products without combustible components.

All accessories fitted inside the garden sheds or boxes can easily be retrofitted.

In total, 2x AAA batteries are required. These are already included in delivery.

No, the electric drive can only be mounted on the drive support on the left (when standing in front of the Pergola). The drive support can be installed at the rear or front.

It is not intended for the Pergola to be mounted directly next to a house wall. It may be placed next to it, but all 4 uprights must be attached to the foundation. Please note that all of the uprights are designed with rainwater drainage.

The Sun Screen consists of a polyester/PVC (30/70%) fabric with 5% openness and a thickness of 0.57 mm.

We strongly advise against the cutting or shortening of the LED strip, as this would result in a loss of protection against moisture.

To re-establish the connection between the remote control and the control unit, the power supply must be disconnected. The power supply may then be reconnected after approximately 1 minute. From this point on, there is a 10 second window to pair the remote control. To do so, press and hold the remote control for 3 seconds during these 10 seconds. If the pairing does not work, unplug the control unit again for 1 minute and repeat the above instructions.

From the time the power is supplied during the initial commissioning, there is a 10-second time window to pair the remote control with the control unit . During this time, the remote control must be pressed for 3 seconds. If the pairing does not work, the control unit must be disconnected from the power supply for 1 minute. Then the above instructions shall be repeated.

Without accessories, the Pergola has a clearance height of approx. 234 cm. With the Sun Screen as an accessory, it is slightly reduced to approximately 220 cm.

The louvres can be opened up to 130°.

The rodent protection is made of a glass fibre mat with fine mesh. It is used to keep rodents such as mice and rats at bay. A stainless steel grid with fine mesh can also be used.

In adverse weather conditions, especially at strong winds of 50 km/h, it is strongly recommended to open the louvres to avoid damages.

Basically yes, but please ensure that the rear tyre of each bicycle is always on the ground.

The BikeLift can be mounted on a covered building wall (brickwork, concrete, wood) in just a few easy steps, or installed with a suspension rail in a Biohort garden shed. Enough space must be allowed when using the swivel mount.

Let us know which variant you require when you order!

*Europa garden shed:
Please make sure that you fit the BikeLift at the highest point in the Europa garden shed (centrally on the back wall). If you want to attach several BikeLifts, please note that the size and length of the bicycles must not exceed the lowest interior clearance height, less 15 cm (for safety).

The BikeLift can be used for various wheel types, including e-bikes. But please note the following dimensions:

Max. tyre width: 77 mm
Max. front tyre diameter: 74 cm (29")
Max. weight: 30 kg

The end of the back mudguard or luggage carrier should not protrude beyond the tyre:

The side canopy can only be attached to the side with the integrated gutter. This means that no more than one side canopy can be fitted on the left and on the right.
It is not technically possible to install a side canopy from other shed sizes, so you must always order the size of side canopy that corresponds to the garden shed.

Since 2022, a narrow side canopy for each size of garden shed has also been available to all those who prefer a smaller version of the extension:

S: 414 cm
L: 548 cm

Yes you can. Please complete the spare part request form on our website. Our customer service will contact you as soon as possible and prepare a quote, as necessary.

On all magnetic elements inside the garden shed (e.g. on the roof beams).

The LED light is attached using a magnetic strip.

The Raised Vegetable Bed is available in nine sizes. Depending on the size, accessories include the snail guard, the cold frame extension and the intermediate floor. The Belvedere Planting Bed, on the other hand, is available in three sizes and seven different lengths. The intermediate floor is included in the standard equipment supplied for the Planting Bed.

During the winter, it can generally be assumed that the temperature inside the product will equate to the outside temperature as there is no insulation.

Biohort products can heat up on exposure to prolonged sunlight in the same way as cars. Regular ventilation is required in this respect in order to regulate the temperature.

Biohort products do not emit any sounds on exposure to cold and heat as the steel plate has a very low material expansion coefficient (considerably lower than aluminium, plastic or concrete, etc.).

Our 20-year guarantee offers protection against corrosion of metal parts and for defective or unusable parts. The following are not covered by the guarantee: transport damage (the shipping company is liable for this damage), damage due to faulty foundations and/or aggressive environmental conditions (due to chlorine, salt, acid, etc.,) and indirect or consequential damage. Only the statutory 24-month warranty period applies for wear, moving parts, colour changes, and electrical, plastic and rubber parts. Details of our guarantee conditions can be found here.

Biohort products are available in the colours specified. Special paint finishes are not available due to serial production.

Please note that independent recolouring/repainting the products will invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.

You can buy accessories directly from our online shop.

Biohort products are made from high-quality steel plate and aluminium, and are therefore 99% recyclable.

Well thought-out functionality

Quick assembly

The Biohort Raised Vegetable Bed simply is extremely practical - right from the outset. The robust aluminium extruded corner elements with integrated guide rail can be assembled by just one person in less than 10 minutes. Thanks to tongue and groove corner profiles, the side panels can be connected without screws. The illustrated assembly manual also makes the product much easier to assemble.

Beautiful design

The galvanised, polyamide enamel coated steel plate used for the side panels is simply elegant and aesthetically pleasing. Our Biohort Raised Vegetable Bed kit is thus an attractive design feature in any garden.

Robust construction

Thanks to the special construction with hollow chamber profiles, the side panels of the metal Raised Vegetable Bed are also extremely resilient and have been designed for decades of continuous use.

Easy to empty

The practical fixing system also plays a key role when it comes to replacing the Raised Vegetable Bed contents. Save time and energy when clearing out the Raised Vegetable Bed thanks to the easy-to-open side wall elements.

Faster growth

The special advantage of a Raised Vegetable Bed lies in the lower filling layers where rotting heat is generated. This increases the soil temperature in the root area of the plants by up to 5 degrees, thus allowing an earlier harvest.

4. GARDEN SOIL

High-quality potting soil, humus or compost provide ideal conditions for good rooting and optimum plant growth.

3. COMPOST AND LEAVES

The generously sized middle core comprising compost and leaves releases important nutrients and heat.

2. FINELY CHOPPED MATERIAL OR GRASS

This layer prevents smaller components seeping through from above.

1. BRANCHES OR TWIGS

The lowest layer guarantees adequate ventilation from below for even rotting.
